Golden Orb-Weaver Spider (Nephila maculata)

A big 'lump' of a spider that I see quite often, especially at secondary forests, is the Golden Orb-Weaver Spider or Nephila maculata. The female is enormous (reaching up to 20 cms), but the male is tiny and red (see pic). Not sure if the things will harm you, but I don't really want to find out. I will just admire them from a distance.

Here, you can also see the tiny red male behind her. How do they manage to, you know ... make the earth move?
